And Freeserve admits to losing 80,000 already. That's probably more than most of the other 200 or so ISP's in the UK have as subscribers. So it will come down to who can get and keep subscribers. BTW, I haven't seen where Freeserve is taking their service to other countries. Are they just banking on call revenue and sales for Dixon's in the UK only? X-Stream will soon offer toll-free access across Europe, obviously in a bid to build subscriber numbers. Too bad they're not owned by a large electronics retailer who could drop a CD in every bag that leaves the store. That's how Freeserve jumped to such a high subscriber base and then lost the 80,000,IMO. How many people just popped in the CD and registered to try it out? I would hope the 80,000 didn't leave for another reason? Even AOL has lost subscribers in the UK. In fact, they seem to have about the same as X-Stream. But would I say X-Stream is better than AOL? No. Freeserve better than AOL? No. The British, Scots, Irish, and the rest of Europe will determine the winners there. And we all know that they don't do things the way we do in the states. The AOL's, MSN's, etc. won't go away, but I'll bet there will be a few new guys on the block. Freeserve may be in the lead now, but the race is far from over.
