It's not surprising they praise the NY Times, whose 'news' stories are often op-ed pieces, just like any other paper.

I was disappointed that the article didn't mention this problem, which I consider the worst news problem we have. Perhaps it's discussed in the book. I'm increasingly troubled by the failure to distinguish between news and commentary. It's rare to see news reported as news.

I started thinking about this more about the time that Greta Susteren started her new show on Fox. I just happened to notice that her show was described as "news" in the TV program as were the Brit Hume and Shepard Smith shows earlier in the evening while the O'Reilly and Hannity and Colmes were both described as "talk/tabloid." It seems to me that the distinction is artificial or at least murky and that almost all news shows have become entertainment shows, which inevitably leads the providers into commentary. As it becomes harder and harder to find news, I'm more and more bothered by commentary being passed off as news. It seems to me that's the reform most needed. I enjoy the commentary shows. I just don't like seeing them portrayed as news.
