[ATM Conf., London]
You know anyone going? The Last Mile session looks interesting. And the line-up of speakers is a long ways from shabby. I see NN and Siemens and Alcatel and 3Coms and alot of others.

Track 2: Public Networks The Last Mile
Building an ATM backbone is one thing, connecting customers to it at a reasonable cost is another. What are the options available, and what are their pros and cons? This session will include:
An overview of the technologies that can support ATM over existing telephone wiring. A status report on ADSL developments. What cable operators can bring to the table.
ATM is growing rapidly, both as a service offering to businesses and other large customers and as part of the public network infrastructure. The technology capabilities, ATM drivers, customer applications, and deployment inhibitors for each broadband loop access technology will be covered during the session.
Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) technology is a key component in the race to provide megabit data services to the vast residential marketplace over the existing copper plant. ATM over ADSL technology offers end user customers all the advantages of using ATM, particularly ATM Quality of Service (QoS) features, over ordinary telephone lines.
This session will explore importance of strategy; the costs of being tactical and setting and driving the development of customer expectations.
