Kealoha - Re: "Intel & sub $1000 PCs"

When Cyrix first announced the MediaGX and the Compaq deal, somebody asked me what I thought about it.

My reply was that I was disappointed that Intel hadn't done it. Further, Compaq's adoption of the MediGX "legitimized" the concept of integrating a lot of system function into the CPU chip per se - graphics/video display, audio, modems, DVD, disk controllers, etc.

I believe Intel may have read this the same way - If Cyrix/Compaq can do it, so can we.

I just hope Intel designs in a LOT OF SYSTEM functions, puts them on a small chip based on 0.25 micron technology and tries to score a "home run". I certainly hope they just don't offer up a dumbed-down classic Pentium at bargain basement prices.

This could open up new markets for Intel, I hope, as opposed to cannabalizing their high end CPUs.

Let's hope for the best.
