[VDSL- opinion] Jim,

<For VDSL you need FTTN Fiber to the Neighborhood>

There are so many FTTx expressions ... anyway what's important is that VDSL runs only about 200-300m (1kft) at 52 Mbit/s symmetrically. Some companies said in the last ADSL forum meeting that they believe the symmetrical high speed rates should be deleted from the VDSL standard because they're not achievable. That's according to a friend who attended the meeting.

<Would like your the source of the Super HDSL system info?>

This was a personal opinion from myself, considering that the VDSL standard is not defined yet, and companies might start implementing something what's working today (even if it's proprietary) rather than waiting until VDSL is defined.

I agree that sources should always be mentioned and apologize if I haven't always done so. However, I also think it's interesting to include personal views for discussion.

<I agree, with the statement ADSL/VDSL in the same bundle, but can you explain what type of interference is the caused?>

The problem is crosstalk. Don't ask me about the details, but I guess you run into the same problems like in VDSL, i.e. the distances of ADSL cannot be reached anymore when mixing the up- and downstream directions in the same cable bundle.

<Could you narrow down "quite some time">
I am talking about mass deployment here, and then I would say we see VDSL in 2000+ earliest. Again that's a personal opinion, but think about how long it took ISDN, ATM, HDSL and still takes ADSL to become available to the majority of the population.

<BTW what is this TTM advantage ADSL has? Time To Market?>
Correct.

<Should you add a direct quote, please show the URL to the source, or the Issue of the Tree Pulp publication. It's a great habit, helps all participates, and adds to the knowledge of the AI SI.>

I absolutely agree and will do so if anything I post is based on a single source.

Best regards,
Arndt
