<<Has anyone heard of Chicony before ?>> Here is a copy of the post I made on the AOL board:
Subj: Chicony Background info Date: 04 Jun 1997 14:35:28 EDT From: IAmErgoSum Message-ID: <19970604183501.OAA13769@ladder02.news.aol.com>
Chicony Electronics was founded in 1983. It started out making keyboards but in 1987 organized a Portable Computer Division. It currently has about 50,000 sq. meters of production space ( in Taiwan, Thailand, China, and Scotland) and annual notebook manufacturing capacity of 130,000 units.
It has in the past made notebooks for the following: Canon, Ambra, Leading Edge, DataPro, Zenith, Keydata,Midwest Micro, Infotel, Hyundai, PF Micro, Oreman Systems, Treasure Chest,Insight, Commax, IPC, Novacomm, Future Tech, Markvision, Eurocom, TOP PC's, PC Brand, ARM,Stenocat.
My information is that the current list of companies they are currently manufacturing for is substantially less than the above, and none of the names are too familiar so I won't bore you with the list. I also understand that Chicony is sister company to Kapok (www.kapok.com.tw) and Clevo (www.clevo.com.tw). Kapok makes very high end notebooks and Clevo (formally known as Nan-Tan Computer) makes low-end.
