The current issue of Reason magazine has a full page ad for Buchanan's book. At the top there are bullet points that say OUR BORDERS OPENED OUR CULTURE INVADED OUR CULTURE DESTROYED OUR HEROES DEFILED OUR VALUES ASSAULTED OUR GOD DETHRONED The only things I agree with are the open borders and the assault on values. The merits of open borders are debatable and the assault on values is an ongoing struggle, it isn't exactly over. Buchanan is a Latin Mass Catholic. I've been around these good people, but not lately. I distanced myself because the constant drumbeat of losing the culture war lends itself to a feeling of pervasive pessimism. The sky isn't necessarily falling, but you can't tell these people that.
