If the headline blared, "Gates Says U.S. Losing Iraq War", then it was an intentional lie from the start. Gates NEVER said we we're losing in Iraq. He said we weren't winning in Iraq at this time.

As I noted previously, he later emphasised that we weren't losing in Iraq, no doubt to fend off the potential for intentional mischief by the MSM.

As we now see, it didn't matter what he said nor how he said it.
