To all, a small mention of New Media in Europe, this is a RFP for cable modems that are DAVIC compliant. I am not sure if this is to sell to Golden Channel modems for their digital headends we are also selling them,or for other not yet announced contracts.
But anyway,we know where the ROK 3 chipsets are going that HLIT bought last June.

EuroCableLabs Receives DVB/DAVIC-Compliant Proposals from Ten Vendors
In response to a RFP for a cable modem system issued by EuroCableLabs, ten of nineteen vendors responded with a DVB/DAVIC-compliant proposal, meeting the organization's specification. The vendors include:

Alcatel/SEL alcatel.com
COCOM cocom.dk
ECI-Telecom ecitele.com
Elsa elsa.de
Hughes Network Systems hns.com
New Media Communication nmcfast.com
Nokia nokia.com
Philips philips.com
Simac simac.be
Thomson thomson-multimedia.com

EuroCableLabs has provided the following notes on its efforts:

"(The) first cable modem systems will be commercially available this year (4Q98). The in-band principle is supported by cable modems and the out-of-band principle is supported by set-top boxes in most cases. However, the INAs are generally designed in such a way that they can handle both principles. It shall be possible to operate in-band services as well as out-of-band services within one network. The interface of internal cable modems is PCI. Stand-alone cable modems often have Ethernet interfaces. In the future USB and IEEE 1394 will also be available. Manufacturers of set-top boxes frequently mentioned that PC interfaces like USB will also be submitted by their set-top boxes."
