08:32 ET Claims lower than expected
Jobless Claims fell a surprising 32K to 360K in the latest week, and the number of people receiving state benefits fell 136K in the prior week. Both numbers are encouraging, though something more than a 1-week decline is needed to confirm a sustained improvement in the job market. CPI rose 0.1% total and core, a bit better than expected but of little consequence given the lack of inflation fears at present.

08:30 ET CPI +0.1% vs +0.2% consensus; core +0.1% vs +0.1% consensus

08:30 ET Jobless Claims -32K to 360K vs 395K consensus
State benefits also fell 136K.
