I agree with what you're saying. Doesn't it seem preposterous that when a company exceeds the price growth of the expert, rather then saying it's even better then I thought and raising their estimates, analyst seem to generally lower their rating. This frequently brings the stock down to around the level they forecast, they can then say I told you so. The stock may then move up, they can make another higher forecast, raise their rating again, and as far as they're concerned all's well with the world. I've seen numerous analyst do this over the years, I wonder how much of it is really intended as valid advise, and how much is intended to churn the stock, generating commissions for their brokerage houses and brokers, as well as stroking their egos.
