"Do you know what the advantages of hydrogen are?"

When you burn hydrogen, you get water. If you use a fuel cell, it is more efficient than burning it so you can build a lighter car with smaller motors. If locked into a metal hydride, it is also non-explosive and non-flamable. The big problem is we have to make the hydrogen, usually by the electrolysis of water.

If we could move to hydrogen in a big way, the hydrogen could be generated by nuclear, wind or solar plants and have no emissions at all. There is still the disposal problem for the nuclear plants though. During the oil crisis, TI did some work on little spherical solar cells that generated hydrogen from sunlight.

If they can efficiently regenerate sodium borohydride solutions with hydrogen, that would solve an awful lot of problems. It could be formulated to have the same energy density as gasoline. Reasonably non-corrosive and non-toxic too. Each gallon could hold 1 kg. of hydrogen and could be retailed for something over $1 with good profit all around. But, we don't know how to do that right now.
