China Mobile awards GPRS deal to Ericsson
REUTERS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Swedish telecoms equipment maker Ericsson said it has been selected as the main supplier of a GPRS network for China Mobile Communications Corp.
China Mobile will have the largest GPRS network in the world, Ericsson said in a statement.

It gave no details of the value of the deal.

GPRS (General Packet Radio Switching) allows mobile phone users to stay constantly connected to the Internet and receive advanced graphics through high-speed data transmission.

It enhances current mobile standards such as GSM and represents a halfway stage between those and third-generation UMTS standards.
