Okay, hmmm, the hundred people. I agree that they would all have different responses to the same situation. Now your premise is made harder by the impossibility of training 100 people up identically. (After all, they could all hear the same sermons - and each one snoozes thru a different Indispensable Idea.) What I acknowledge here is that everyone is born with a different basic personality. I am astounded how much Helen's temperament is something she brings to the table - not something she picked up from us.
So - it's the nature vs. nurture argument. I take a middle-of-the-road stance on this. Some nature, some nurture. I imagine there are people who are inherently inclined toward nobility of thought and deed. Conversely, I am convinced that there are folks who slid out of the birth canal just all springloaded to be axe murderers or telemarketers.
