Why would anybody agree to extradition if they didn't have to? I don't understand it from the accused's point of view. I think I understand it as an issue between jurisdictions, but I'm confused about the other aspect of it.

It just delays the inevitable.

If the prosecution was insisting on the death penalty, then Mexico might refuse to extradite. I believe the prosecutor has taken the dp off the table to clear that issue.
