SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 1997--IMP, Inc.
(NASDAQ:IMPX) today announced a broad technology strategic alliance
with Linfinity Microelectronics Inc., of Garrden Grove, CA, a
subsidiary of SymmetriCom, Inc. (NASDAQ:SYMM).
As part of this alliance, Linfinity, which designs and
manufactures a wide variety of next-generation portable power,
desktop power and data communications analog and mixed-signal IC
solutions, will gain the use of IMP's advanced process technology,
manufacturing capacity and design resources.
Also as part of this strategic alliance, IMP, which specializes
in high-volume manufacturing of analog and mixed-signal process
technologies, has endorsed and will license many of Linfinity's
advanced linear and mixed-signal IC product designs. The specific
products resulting from the agreement will be announced at a later
date. Under this alliance, IMP and Linfinity will also share
marketing knowledge, long-term product and process development plans
and back-end manufacturing expertise.
David A. Laws, Chairman of IMP, Inc., commented, "IMP is pleased
to have been selected by Linfinity as its partner and primary
external supplier for CMOS and BiCMOS wafers. As an added plus to
this relationship, systems and subsystem designers and the industry
as a whole will benefit from the fact that they have multiple sources
with which to satisfy their high-volume production needs on exciting
new generations of analog and mixed signal devices."
Mark Granahan, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Product
Development at Linfinity, commented, "The advent of this strategic
alliance marks a long-term technical development program between
Linfinity and IMP, including the licensing and production of future
advanced Linfinity product designs and the further development of
additional Linfinity/IMP proprietary processing capabilities. IMP
offers a combination of high production efficiency, excellent cycle
times and outstanding quality, on CMOS and BiCMOS processes optimized
to the unique needs of Linfinity's products. Additionally, Linfinity
will utilize IMP's manufacturing capability in addition to its own
extensive process expertise and facilities to produce ICs for
Linfinity's large and rapidly-growing customer base."
IMP, Inc. is a supplier of analog and high-voltage wafer foundry
