"With Jaz you buy the drive and then buy disks. The drive is never replaced and you add storage in 1 GB increments at a lower cost than hard disk replacement."

Look at the price of Jaz cartriges, per megabyte.

Look at the price of hard drives, per megabyte.

Look at the historical pricing curves for each.

Any questions?

Right now the two are about at parity - you can buy 1GB of Jaz cartrige or 1GB or hard disk space for about the same price.

But I beleive that hard disks will continue to drop in price to the point where they will be considerably cheaper than Jaz media.

And the cost of Zip media is *significantly* higher than the cost/MB of hard drives.

While I am bullish on Iomega at this point - don't see any significant competition, good brand identification, etc. I am also realistic. I do not think people will buy these products for cost savings that are not there, but for convenience. This reduces the number of potential buyers to those who need the convenience.
