OK, most NZ banks do not seem to want your deposit unless you are moving there. fat chance. anyway, I tried a number of banks and finally found that TSB Bank is willing to take on foreigh exchange accounts (ie accounts in USD). as I said these were ay 8% and are now about 4% (possibly 5% over 10k deposit, I am not sure if I was reading the form corectly)

anyway, you can write Tania Hillman at
tania.hillman@tsbbank.co.nz -she is manager of Foreign Exchange at TSB Bank. You do have to also open a regular account at their bank, but I never got that far when rates declined so much.

I was interested in a NZD account, but then I found that the service charge for exchange conversion was 1% (IN AND OUT), and although I still figure the dollar will decline against the NZD I just gave up the idea - I am not that big a player.

I use ING also, but they are in the forefront of lowering rates, so I am looking for something else.
