Why would his death increases the chances of a vote for e republican? People matter. It was a close race and Wellstone was a passionate, vibrant politician. I think the Dems will have a tough time now, but they might have a chance if they can persuade ex-senator Mondale to take Wellstone's place on the ticket. The sympathy vote thing works well when the surviving wife replaces the candidate, but in this case she died in the plane crash.
