I'm the proud new owner of a blue G3 MT, just got it yesterday. Boy is it sweet! You will not regret getting one. As far as the fan is concerned, I hadn't even noticed it until I read your post and then made a point to listen. Yeah, you can hear it, but its's not something that stands out to me, not annoying at all.
