Robin,

Although the FDA has committed to making the approval of AIDS drugs a priority, I don't think you can expect them to be so generous. I may be sticking my foot in my mouth here but I feel they are an archaic structure in need of replacement or at very least overhaul. Like most other government institutions they are notoriously slow and often make mistakes that do more harm than good. How would you feel if a drug that is already being sold in Canada and Europe, saving lives in the process, is being withheld from you, the patient, because you're a US citizen and the FDA is dragging it's feet? Don't get me wrong, the FDA serves a vital fucntion but it could stand to do a hell of a lot better. Maybe like Social Security we should think about privatising the process.

Hank
