Neither do I. That's substantive.

If Bush hadn't used 911 to bring up Iraq, would President Kerry have invaded it? That's substantive.

The problem with Iraq is that it is already a mess. Kerry is inheriting a humongous, chaotic mess. If it weren't a mess but merely contained as before, it would be an entirely different situation.

The problem in Iraq:

- we toppled the government, disbanded the army, opened the borders, bombed much into smithereens....we do have a responsibility no matter how many times we declare fake victory.

- does our presence there make things better or worse? It makes some things better (as in there aren't any alternative at the moment) and makes other things worse.

- Iraq has oil. Since the US doesn't think much of guzzling SUVs, we need the oil. Heck our trading partners need the oil as well.

- What is going on with the region? What if we leave and Iran starts up again with its long time enemy Iraq? What if Iran takes over southern Iraq? What if the Kurds declare independence and the Turks get all freaked out (they told us to get out of Tal Afar or they would withdraw ALL support)? What if Israel bombs suspected Iranian nuclear facilities?

What if it becomes an even bigger mess and we stand by and watch? Do we care?

I don't know and I'll bet NO ONE ELSE DOES EITHER. So many factions, so much oil, so many weapons, so much religion, so little employment, so little stability.....
