A poem by my good 82 year old friend.
i SEE MY GOD by Hoyte sessions Gilstrap
I see my God in the ceaseless beauty Of my own loved countryside, In the perennial bursting of buds into bloom Each time the spring comes round; In the perfection of the movements of the stars And the steadfast orbiting of the planets; In the gentle caressing of the soft spring rain Or the passion of a thunderstorm!
I see my God in the tall, tall forests That tower above the sleeping earth; In the lovely crocus that pushes up thro' snow To gladden the heart with promise Of seasons to come as they have evolved For time upon unending time Since first Jehovah spoke them into being.
No blind chance gave man - this mortal man - The things that his delighted eye doth e'er behold Nor made the eye itself that it may see The wonders of the earth! No accidental chance Gave me this house of flesh, the temple of my soul, Which failing, has such mighty power, Renewing itself gain and again!
i see my God with Master Mind and Power So infinite as not to be conceived By finite weaklings such as live below! He moves the mighty nations to do service To the will of Him with Whom we have to do! And time moves on so slowly that unheeding man Sees not His powerful hand. But I, Tho' seeing not these greater Aims and Plans, May see in my own life and years The work of Him Whose child I am, And see my God,Who molds my life To my own best and everlasting good!
God bless
