Australia is a follower. When the US inflates, Australia inflates faster, but the former must begin the game. The last thing anyone expects is inflation. World slack and low cost labor still coming on stream seem an unbeatable combo. The world's central banks believe they have latitude to stimulate activity under the expected continuance of the two. The question is whether past and current stimulus will cause a rise in economic growth or disproportionately, a rise in prices. Few believe in the latter.

Last summer there were few who believed the stock market could get a royal whacking. A good correction, yes, a devastating downside blast, no. It took six weeks. You can't look to the past and conclude the future.
