I guess if we went to Europe, we would bitch louder. They can put up with 10 percent unemployment since some of the governments pay their mortgages, food, healthcare, day care, elder care, and vacation rentals. The Europeans are now bitching about the gas taxes. Have the higher taxes helped their independence from oil imports?

The income and living costs vary a lot between localities. High tax rates don't make a lot of sense as you're taxing that variance moreso than inequity.
