Nailing the Admins to A Cross of Cell Phones

Local News: Schools Target Cyberbullies | bullies, joined, target - ktvl.com

The Ashland School Board is cracking down on online bullies. They joined other Oregon districts in adopting a policy against cyberbullying.

School board members in Ashland say cyberbullying is a nationwide problem that leaves students feeling embarrassed, intimidated and even threatened. Ruth Alexander of the Ashland School Board says students are vulnerable to cyberbullies.

On Monday the Ashland school board adopted a no tolerance policy for cyberbullies. The Medford school board adopted their policy back in September.

This is the usual self-serving, ass-covering, shoot-the-messenger bullshit you expect from the incompetents we have placed in charge of our public schools.

The truth is that there have been vicious, violent bullies in our schools forever - certainly since I was a kid fifty years ago. And certainly school administrators have tried to pretend that was not the case - including recent no-exception policies that punish the bullied whenever the bullies are caught smacking them around - identical punishments for "fighting."

What technology - specifically cell phone videos and displays on You Tube, My Space, and elsewhere - have made this longterm problem too obvious to ignore. Of course the admin class wants to outlaw the means by which their incompetence and tolerance of bullies has been exposed, rather than make any attempt to stop the bullying. I suspect that technology will keep them from doing so.

I doubt that security-mad parents are going to permit schools to outlaw cell phones, the leash with which most parents keep track of their kids.
