[Clarification from Salomon Conf.]

<<<why does AMTX have a year lead in VDSL? (don't orctf have a product?) >>>

I wondered the same thing and since this time I'm only the reporter, I don't really have a solid answer. I know Amati will have product shipping 1Q '98. Has Orckit announced a shipping date for commercial quantities? It may be in reference to the power consumption, rates and distances, as well.

<<<<- "GTE no longer reconditioning MSFT lines" <- didn't get this one.>>>

When they began their Microsoft trials in Redmond, WA, they conditioned all the lines until one day they decided to try it without and, lo and behold, they discovered they got equally good results. A huge savings as you can well imagine.

<<<- "HKT/NEC contract $350M" <- is this $350M to NEC>>

No, I believe this is to Amati and would equate to roughly $437 per line for 8M lines. I don't know how many years this represents, but clearly out past 2000.

Hope this helps.
