With Gold up, and the XAU not rising dramtically, I would speculate that much of todays action on gold stocks is massive shorting. Maybe some wise future trader decided to technically bump the futures on a weak day. Since the XAU did not move in unison with the Gold rise, maybe a wall has been made on the XAU. An upper resistance.

You could very well be right. The charts are still very bearish for gold and the XAU/GOX.
