Hi Richard, there are two websites that you can have some fun searching for your answers while you're waiting for someone here to respond: uspto.gov patent.womplex.ibm.com I know that the US Patent and Trademark Office site has a nice boolean search engine. I've used it myself to search for patents related to my own "work-work". I recall you can search for things like assignee (Ampex), subject, inventor, etc. When you locate a patent, the abstract, claims, and related referenced patents are given. To get a complete copy, you must order it -- the cost is very nominal. The other site is run by IBM - obvious from the URL. It also has a search engine and presents actual graphics style pages of the patents. The only drawback to this site is that it is not as readily updated as the USPTO one is. Hope this helps... Ron
