LEED certified buildings: "Since its inception in 1998, LEED has grown to encompass more than 14,000 projects in the United States and 30 countries covering 1.062 billion square feet (99 km²) of development area." And the rate of new LEED certified buildings is indeed surging.

Oil is economic poison -- and the biggest single contributor to our trade deficit. Higher prices have ALWAYS spurred innovation and conservation -- it is the cornerstone of all economics. If those higher prices are by means of tax hikes -- GREAT. I would rather see a tax on gas than an income tax. The only thing better than a two dollar a gallon tax on gas would be a five dollar a gallon tax on gas.

As for starting new companies meaning nothing (as you state), you don't live in the Bay area where entrepreneurship, innovation and the process of staring a new company is the lifeblood of the economy. Without innovation the US economy is dead -- dead, dead, dead. The worst thing in the world for the US would be to hang on till the bitter end and be the last oil dependent country on earth.

I could go on -- but why bother? You obviously are out of touch with the thriving world of innovation that is all around you -- and my sense is that you are out of touch by choice. I don't want to rob you of your freedom -- even if it is the freedom to be unaware of the rapid changes going on in the world today when it comes to oil and carbon.
