Chavez lied, ...no surprises there.

One crucial detail was missed in the reports of the Venezuelan Army's
move against the populist President Hugo Chavez -- the role of the FARC
guerillas from neighboring Colombia. On top of the two-day strike in the
state-owned oil industry, the street rioting and Chavez's attempts to suppress
TV coverage, the last straw for the army was Chavez's "lies" about the discreet
sanctuary being given to FARC. Colombia has repeatedly charged that FARC
rebels sought sanctuary in Venezuela, an accusation hotly denied by Chavez,
who went so far as to demand an apology from Colombia. Gen. Nestor
Gonzalez declared that he has seen photographic and documentary evidence of
FARC training camps on Venezuelan territory. After directly calling Chavez a
lair, Gonzalez concluded by saying, "We are a country who deserves to be
governed by something better than you." The army then demanded that Chavez
resign.
