The Time To Prepare For The Contraction Is During The Expansion This is really pretty simple stuff. During the fat years reserves should be gathered. These reserves can then be used to alleviate the pain of the lean years. The reason that we are in so much trouble is that during a period of extraordinary growth and prosperity not only didn't we save but we actually significantly increased our debt. The reality is not only didn't we put aside a portion of the rich harvests for the lean years but we actually distributed the seed grain to people to eat during those years. A society which eats its seed grain is going to have difficulty for a number of years, period.
