george, The fan sounds like the most likely source of the noise. I had this problem with a fan in a power supply that finally gave up on me. The problem can change with the weather. I keep my house fairly cool, and often had the noise when I turned on the computer during winter. It would go away after things warmed up. It's easy to check the power supply fan without opening up the machine by momentarily preventing it from running with some foreign object (Qtips work good). It might help to clean the fan blades now and then. Enough accumulated dust might tend to unbalance it. There may be other fans inside the box that could be the source of the noise too. Dan
