Sure, but "tithing is common" is not the same as "Christians are supposed to give 10% of their income to charity", right? Muslims have a annual numerical amount delineated in one of their 5 "commandments/tenets", so its a bit silly for mindmeld to be going on about how Muslims don't give to charity.

Also, the concept (or lack thereof) of giving to the less well off may show how religion is dying in Europe. Americans tip extremely well and are known around the world for it. Europeans often get all the change, down to the coins, and leave zero. That's gotta somehow be tied into the concept of helping those less well off than yourself.
