Mark, clearly that paragraph is bad writing. But it is equally clear that it was IoMega officials saying that they want to remain independent.

It's pretty easy to verify this, in any case. How about contacting HP, Iomega, and the NY Times?

I'm not going to bother, because if HP had actually made this statement, beleive me, we would hear a LOT more about it.
