<<Oh, oh, oh. I can't stand the suspense. I've never been to an auction. What if I do something stupid, and someone else gets the house? I think I'd better attend a few in advance, so I know what I am doing.>>

I've been to a few. Got a new chair and sofa for $8 cause they were there for the farm stuff.

Small items get auctioned first unless it is real estate only. Set your limit and don't get too quick on bidding if you get close. Keep interested so you have their attention so you can bid. Don't get caught up in a bidding war, 1 they may have a shill there running up the bid, 2 it's not a loss when you don't overpay.

Register and get a number, no number = no bid. Don't loan out your number.

You want to bid and the cried price is $300,000 off a bid of $275,000 tell the guy working the audience You want to go $280,000.

Don't start the bidding. And if it is a $300k property and the bid is $500k fondle your crotch. It will keep your hand down so you don't swat the mosquito on your nose and give you the "it's over priced" smile.
