NEW YORK, March 4 (newratings.com) – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Friday threatened to cut off oil supplies to the United States if the latter country tried to "hurt" the Latin American country. Venezuela is the world’s fifth largest oil exporter.

"We want to supply oil to the United States. We are not going to avoid supplying oil unless the US government gets a little bit crazy and tries to hurt us," Chavez, currently on a visit to India, told reporters. "If there is any aggression, there will be no oil," Chavez added. Chavez has repeatedly accused the US of efforts to destabilise his government. Relations between the two countries have deteriorated since Chavez took office in February 1999. Chavez last month accused Washington of plotting to have him assassinated. The US state department has termed the allegations as "ridiculous and untrue."
