A couple of inaccuracies in your assesment of DVD-RAM:

1. I believe that the speed of DVD drives is currently fixed in the standard. I do think that this will be eventually address. There is considerable disappointment in the industry that DVD drives are currently slower than CD drives.

2. I doubt very much that DVD-RAM media will be "pennies", at least not for many, many years. The media will probably start out around $20, but I do expect it to reach the current price of CD-ROM media ($4-$5 - yes, the shortage is over, and CD-ROM media is cheap now).

3. Non-writable DVD does indeed have a capacity of nearly 30GB, if you use both sides. DVD-RAM, however, only has a capacity of 2.7GB.

I do think that DVD-RAM poses a threat that IOM will have to deal with, but neither an immediate nor an overwhelming one. It certainly will eventually cut into IOM's sales in certain sectors.
