I think both companies are long-term buys and both have risks. It's somewhat easier to follow the news-driven Ballard than ERC here from Germany but if you are right with your expectation re. ERC the intermediate potential of ERC could be better.

Personally I'm absolutely inclined to a pure fuel cell car design serving the world population's needs in the next century. It's like physics - the simple design (of theories, of cars) is much more beautiful. I prefer the simple (not in terms of technical sophistication though) and clear design over the impure. But progress often unfolds itself in unknown ways (which is why we have a stock market which is a vehicle of supporting economical and technical change).

If Daimler-Benz is smart enough to hold stakes in both companies wouldn't it be wise to follow this path? I think it is.
