C, I should also like to point out that Mr. L is hopeful that the Canadian government will give preference to products made by one of the companies he feels is a serious competitor for Ascend, Gandalf Communications. He feels that they make a good product but also that it's necessary for the Canadian govt. to buy Gandalf's routers in order to save its Canadian bacon (Gandy is a troubled Canadian company that's having a hard time making a go of it). You've probably read that post since you're on that Gandalf thread as well. I harbor no ill will towards Gandalf but if it takes govt. purchases to keep them alive it doesn't speak well of their reception in the marketplace and thus it's hard to see them as a viable threat to Ascend, IMHO.
