In the area of competition, since LPTHA doesn't seem to be trying to take on some of the big players for the long-haul applications I would guess that anyone designing cost effective WDM systems that could be utilized by local carriers or used in LAN's could be considered a competitor. I think that Osicom (FIBR) has developed DWDM products in the $10,000-$45,000 range. I personally don't think much of FIBR because of the stories of stock manipulation and mafia involvement, share dillution, etc. coupled with the stock about 60% off it's highs and near it's 52 week low. But you should check them out as they probably pose a competitive threat. Another player who claims to have innovative WDM solutions is OCA, (private company). They have a deal with MCI so they seem to be for real. They use a patented coating for their filters which sounds interesting. I don't know how to compare Lightpath's GRADIUM lenses to these sorts of things because I am not technically oriented and Lightpath seems to be trying to use a radically different approach to WDM (that they claim will be much cheaper). Anyway, here is their homepage along with the Osicom release.
