I guess popcorn and movies go together in China too....................

Shantou Customs seize 910,000 smuggled VCDs
(07/November/1997)

Shantou, November 7 (CNS) --- Customs officers in Shantou
City last week cracked a case of video compact discs (VCDs)
smuggling.

The 910,000 VCDs, possibly the largest number to be seized,
were located on board a cargo vessel.

On November 1, customs officers went on board an inbound
vessel to check its consignment and, after an hour and a half,
a container containing a substantial quantity of VCDs was
detected covered by other goods. When counted, 465,000
musical VCDs were found, together with 445,000 movie
VCDs, 130,000 of which were obscene.

Consignment packaging and customs declaration forms
described the contents as popcorn, but only a few actually
contained popcorn, the rest were VCDs.

It is not known if any arrests were made, but the customs
bureau is reported to be liaising with local police for further
investigation.
