I think that there are legitimate reasons for choosing not
to be a parent. However, I think that parenthood should, in most cases, be
viewed as preferable.

On the contrary, as a divorce attorney, I would say that people who think they should not be parents should NOT. I see too many broken lives from people who thought having a child would "save their marriage" or from teenagers who think that having a baby is a symbol of being an adult, and so on to think that parenthood is preferable for everybody.

I am delighed to see people who aren't committed to having children going ahead and making the societally hard decision not to have them. It's a darn sight harder to justify liveing in this society childless than with children, even today.

That said, I think, as I have said before that society should give certain preferential treatment to families with children, both because of their being the future of the country and to recognize the heavy burden parents take on, often before they realize how hard it is, to raise the next generation of taxpayers, workers, voters, and general citizens.

(We're carefully not mentioning that they are also raising the next generation of con artists, murderers, scoundrels, etc. LOL!!)
