Troika Networks Executives Appointed DAFS Collaborative Working Group Leaders Appointments Further Demonstrate TROIKA's Extensive VI Expertise, Industry Leadership for Bringing Networking Features and Capabilities to the Data Center WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 2000-- Troika Networks (TROIKA(TM)), a fast-growing private company driving the convergence of storage networking and clustering for improved availability and performance of e-business applications, today announced that Tracy Edmonds, vice president, Controller Division for TROIKA has been appointed to lead the DAFS Collaborative Application Programming Interface (API) Working Group focused on identifying priorities and driving issues to consensus resolution for a Direct Access File System Protocol API.
TROIKA's leadership in DAFS extends to the marketing organization with Mike Dutch, marketing for TROIKA serving as co-leader for the DAFS Marketing Working Group, with the charter to promote growth and development of a market for DAFS.
The DAFS protocol is a new method for providing application servers with low-latency, high-performance file access to shared pools of storage in data center environments utilizing the Virtual Interface (VI) architecture as its transport mechanism. The DAFS API is an essential element for providing a single interface to common functions for interoperability of DAFS solutions once the protocol standard is complete.
``TROIKA's leadership in developing and delivering the host bus adapter (HBA) API to the industry, combined with our experience in delivering the industry's only standards-based VI solutions, lends unique expertise to the development of the DAFS API,'' said Edmonds.
``We are committed to driving the convergence of Storage Area Networks (SANs) and Network-Attached Storage (NAS), providing consumers with comprehensive, yet simple storage networking solutions. Our contribution will be an essential element for delivering a high-performance file-oriented data transfer mechanism bringing consumers file-level access at block-level speeds,'' Edmonds added.
VI was developed to provide a single standard interface for clustering and application networking, improving CPU utilization and drastically reducing response time at the application level.
VI over Fibre Channel (FC-VI), combines the prominent technology for implementing storage networks with an industry-standard method for interconnecting computers in clusters, enabling the development of a reliable, scalable, high-availability infrastructure necessary to support e-applications.
Fibre Channel also provides more flexibility and greater distances between servers and storage, enabling the implementation of distributed data centers.
TROIKA was the first company to deliver a solution using VI, based on industry standards, leveraging the existing infrastructure of storage devices and interconnects in a trusted, reliable method of network transport. Additionally, TROIKA is the only company providing a complete implementation of the VI architecture, incorporating both write and read direct memory access (DMA).
``Because TROIKA's solution utilizes industry-standard components for storage access, backup and clustering, consumers will be able to leverage the investment they make in Fibre Channel SANs today and will immediately be able to take advantage of DAFS when it becomes available,'' said Edmonds.
TROIKA's Zentai Controller(TM) and SAN Command(TM) Management Software
TROIKA's Zentai Controller and SAN Command management software meet the needs of today's data centers which house multiple operations that each require different protocols to function -- storage operations using SCSI, distributed application such as backup using IP and emerging application networking and clustering functions using VI.
TROIKA's Zentai Controller goes beyond basic multi-protocol functionality with built-in support for dynamic multipathing, quality of service features, automatic discovery and firmware upgrades under load.
The Zentai Controller offers unprecedented software management capabilities with its integrated SAN Command management software, providing simplified administration of resources network-wide through a graphical interface for users to easily configure, monitor and control Zentai Controllers and Fibre Channel networks.
SAN Command provides administrators with crucial insight into their storage network, including the ability to view device asset information, monitor and display connected devices real-time, diagnose and debug network conditions and connections and adjust I/O processing to dramatically reduce CPU overhead.
Additionally, TROIKA's Zentai Controller includes Path Command(TM) and optional Path Command(TM) Plus software that can be managed through SAN Command, providing users of Zentai controllers with automated and transparent FCP-SCSI path failover/failback capabilities.
Multiple paths are available for re-routing data during failover, and failback does not require human intervention. TROIKA's Path Command software provides dynamic load balancing, which instantly and automatically selects the best data path based on current traffic conditions.
The ``Set-and-Forget(TM)'' capability provides a dynamic implementation environment which, once set up, self-manages for greater efficiency, and the powerful built-in intelligence provides automated, efficient use of resources with its intelligent use of policy-based management, including full load balancing and dynamic path affinity.
