BizRadio's Oil Expert, Richard Reilly, Gives His Buy Or Sell Signal To Small Independent Drillers; Off-Shore Platform Developers; and LNG Importers
SUGAR LAND--June 2, 2008--A caller to Daniel Frishberg's MoneyMan Report asked about Vaalco, a very small independent driller with rumors of hedge fund involvement of their Board. Dan and Richard share their thoughts on this and other oil related investments
Dan Frishberg: "Well, Vaalco is a $400 million company and if they are selling little medicine droppers, that is a lot of little medicine droppers. When they are in the oil business; you're talking about the whole capitalization being one drilling rig. It's not a very big company compared to other players in that industry. It's not caused by anything except machinations within the company and investors, similar to the ones that you were talking about earlier."
Richard Reilly: "I'm not familiar with the company at all, but I have seen a lot of these little ones, all they have to have is a real hot prospect for an exploration that might be a rather large oil or gas find and the stock can just kind of shoot to the moon and if it happens to be that they discover it's sustainable it stays up, but otherwise it is like a rocket, it goes up fast and comes down fast."
Dan Frishberg: "There is not a right way to play these things, but my rule is that I don't usually know the inside story in the board room of companies that I don't control, and that means that as soon as I start to see the company in play, I don't gamble, I invest and so what I do is get out of the way when the company is in play."
