Mike, you make some good points
thank you.
as for over state lines shipped items having to pay sales tax, I am highly skeptical that will ever happen. while each state may wish it so, the federal government is much to interested in keeping America a leading Etail power in the world, with two thirds of our economy being so consumer product oriented, and will not allow anything like mandating sales tax charges across state lines. you will see, this legislation will keep getting delayed, and not acted upon. only cooporations will have to pay local taxes across state lines, but retail consumers will continue to be except, and it's tough nuggies on each states retailers for not being able to compete with that fact. This will continue to put nationwide chains with online presences like CompUSA and Staples at a disadvantage. One thing to consider, if they ever DO manage to get cross state sales tax charges for consumers on the books, then companies will simply setup warehouses in Canada and Mexico, so the US economy would suffer from it, and the states won't gain much more tax revenue, and possibly lose taxes as business distribution hubs move across the border. If anyone here is investing with hopes that sale tax laws will change to favor the likes of CompUSA, you may want to rethink your position... |
