I wonder if she has kids? A spouse? Living the simple life for yourself is great, imposing it on your dependants is perhaps less so. If nothing else, the dependants usually have something to say about it. So much, in fact, that the path of least resistance is usually to work harder and give them what they want. At which point they begin complaining that you aren't around enough.

Perhaps she wanders because of the old law that domestic demand increases to exceed the resources available to fill it. It's not the easiest thing to live with.
