Some of those trades you see canceled are the result of having a key entry error get into the system. Once it gets recorded and sent out as an official trade to the world, there is no way to 'correct the record' of all the people, institutions and programs that track the tick by tick activity of an issue except to issue a CANCEL. Presumably, that cancel has been matched up with a buy or sell that is at the correct value.... or the correct stock if it were a symbol entry error.
