Welcome to the Wind River Systems (and other Embedded Systems RTOS vendors) thread. You mentioned two things of extreme interest to those of us who have been discussing the I2O potential for WIND: (1) run-time license in the range of $1 to $4, and (2) 10,000 units shipped within first 18 months.

If you review previous posts, you will find that I guessed the royalty to be in the range of $1 to $3, so I use $2 in my projections. You will also find the basis of my very rough guesses for I2O shipments. I had projected 3.5 million units shipped in FY 1998, which is approximately months 3 to 15 after production shipment by Intel. I projected 16 million units during FY 1999. While it looks like my projections ramp a little slower than Intel’s, 20 million units by the end of FY 1999 may be about right. That is a lot of money going directly to the bottom line from just one deal.

Can you keep us posted on production I2O shipments as they occur on a regular basis (quarterly, annually, or whatever)?

Also, I would ask that you review a number of posts that argue for WIND (and MWAR and INTS) to report run-time licenses as a line-item in financial reports. What is your position on this issue?

Allen
