When I went to the video store the other day, I parked our Honda minivan next to a Toyota Prius with a couple of rather self-satisfied bumper stickers on it. Fortunately they controlled themselves and didn't key the Honda. :-/ We got the minivan because our Volvo wagon was on its last legs, and we needed a vehicle with more leg and head room (SUVs are the same as the wagon in that respect). It's our only vehicle, we work from home, and it's paid for. Down the road, if we still need a minivan when they come out, I'll be checking out the diesel minivan Honda's supposed to be making.
